P
eace and Quiet and a New Theme
Avynn's with his Amma and Grandaddy this weekend, starting yesterday afternoon, so it's actually quiet around the house again.

It's ironic that, when the kid's home, we can think of all sorts of things we'd would like to do but would be impossible (or at least not enjoyable) with Avynn, yet, when he's not around, we can never remember what it was we wanted to do so badly. This is especially true of restaurants: when we drive around town and see a new restaurant that we want to try, it's always one that we're not sure if kids are welcome, but when we're kidless, we can't even remember the name of one of the restaurants we wanted to try.

We haven't had a whole weekend to ourselves in forever, and now we're clueless about what to do with it. You tend to lose your "in" on the nightlife as a parent. Of course, 99% of the time that we get babysitting, it's out of pure necessity of needing to work because of a school holiday instead of because we want to do something we enjoy as a couple. And school holidays are usually smack in the beginning or middle of the week and there's nothing interesting going on around town if we wanted to enjoy ourselves anyway. So now that we actually have a weekend and there actually are a few things to do, both of us just want to enjoy the freedom of doing what we want to do around the house without constant interruptions. Or at least that's how we felt last night. Maybe we'll be a little more extraverted and actually get out of the house today!

Some of my quiet time has actually resulted in a new theme on the site, and one in development. Check out the themes under "main" in the nav bar. The new complete one is Mosaic! Have fun!

O
fficial Summer Kindergardener
Avynn's back home and had his first day of summer school today. He got to swim, which he always looks forward to. Tad said that he was disappointed because he got there too early in the morning and had to go into the "little kids" class until more of the "big kids" got to school, but the rest of the day seemed to go ok. I could tell he was having fun when I picked him up just half an hour before the school was supposed to close and he was upset because I "never let him stay there for very long". Hope the rest of the summer is just as much fun!

H
appy Anniversary To Us!
Today is our wedding anniversary and Tad's taking us to see the Grand Canyon on the steam train from Williams, AZ. Sorry I can't say much more than that, we've got to get on the road! Tell ya all about it when we get home!

P
rocrastinating again
Ok... Ok... so I STILL haven't had time to chronicle our Grand Canyon adventure... Eventually, we will get it done!

In the mean time, here are a couple of cute Avynn quotes to tide you over:

So that explains it!
A couple of nights ago, at bedtime, I read Avynn a story book version of a Native American legend of how the Coyote became gray. The personality flaw that earned Coyote his color is that he has a "nose for trouble". Avynn asked me what that meant, and I explained, and then told him as I tucked him in: "You have a nose for trouble!"
He replied, in typical head-cocked-to-one-side-fashion, "No...."
"...then you have an EAR for trouble!", I said.
He touched his fist to the top of his head and said "No, Mommy, I have a BRAIN for trouble!"
I said "That's for sure!" and turned out the light.

Knock, Knock...
Yesterday, at lunch, we were trying to teach Avynn how to participate in a "Knock, Knock" joke... His first attempt at being the initiator went like this:

Avynn: Knock, Knock!
Me: Who's there?
Avynn:Mr. Ducky Duck.
Me:Mr. Ducky Duck Who?
Avynn:Mr. Ducky Duck Bologna Sausage!

Ok, maybe it will take a little while for him to catch on, but at least we got a laugh anyway!

W
e're Still Here!
Hi! We're still here. We had a rather boring weekend, but still didn't have time to put together a travel page about our Grand Canyon trip. Lindsay has, however, done a lot of touching up on the photos and they all look fantastic. Hopefully we'll have something up by this time next week, maybe sooner.
